“The DISHA Dashboard will be interactive and multi-dimensional, providing multiple views of performance of schemes, with geography drillable down to gram panchayat level, and comparisons across various time dimensions enabled just by the click of a button.”
– Shri Ram Kripal Yadav
Minister of State for Rural Development, Government of India
Last week marked the completion of two years of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA). The week was celebrated as DISHA Week. As part of the celebrations, the Union Minister of Rural Development, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, held discussions on the DISHA initiative and its capabilities.
The Ministry of Rural Development and National Informatics Centre partnered with SocialCops to develop the DISHA Dashboard. It was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 17, 2017, last year as an encouraging step towards data-driven governance.
For the first time, the DISHA Dashboard brings together data from 20 different ministries and empowers Members of Parliament to monitor the progress of 42 national flagship schemes in their respective districts and constituencies. The dashboard lets them zoom into a certain district, block, or even gram panchayat with interactive analysis and visualization across 50 screens — all supported by 3.5 billion data points streaming in real time.
Watch how data intelligence powers the DISHA Dashboard, India’s national data platform.
Our team was honored to be part of DISHA Week, which gave us a chance to reflect on our learnings from using the dashboard for the last few months. While demonstrating the dashboard to state representatives, our team shared how the dashboard allows the MPs to quickly see progress made by each district in terms of overall achievement and growth rate in one screen.
Along with insightful dashboards and analytics, the team also presented the four pillars of security, which includes the integration of two-factor authentication and one-time password (OTP) security checks. Check out all that our team shared during the DISHA workshop here.
Powering the DISHA Dashboard through our data intelligence platform at SocialCops has been a once in a lifetime experience. In the past 9 months, we saw a mere idea of “data-driven governance” transform into reality in front of our eyes and we couldn’t be more proud to be part of writing the story. Every day, our team strives towards building a powerful product that can enable organizations to become more data-driven. We are so excited that today we can power key leaders in the world’s largest democracy to access information at their fingertips and make data-driven decisions!

Hello – thanks for the interesting blog post!
I have a question for you.
What evidence do you have that the dashboard is actually influencing decisions that policy-makers take for the better? Just because information is easily accessible doesn’t mean that is used. How can you tell that this created any effect at all? Have you measured outputs like whether MPs follow up with officials in their constituency if anything abnormal shows up on the dashboard?
Thanks,
Akshat
