Today is the World Mental Health Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness of mental health issues around the world. Here are 4 striking infographics that will help raise awareness about this issue, which is a leading cause of stigma and suicides in India.
1. India is the most depressed country in the world according to a WHO study.
2. India has only one psychiatrist for every 343,000 people.
3. Like much of India’s public-health system, mental health care is under-funded.
4. Shocking data on the number of people who committed suicide due to mental illness.
Hi, on the occasion of World Mental Health Day, it is a good start to share this information in order to spread awareness. Appreciating the good work. I am an occupational therapist working in the field of mental health and psycho-social rehabilitation. An another important aspect to consider is that once an individual with mental illness is diagnosed and is on medications is this the end of treatment?? The answer is in negative. The most important point is to successfully integrate the individual back into the community by helping the individual live independently, providing a meaning to life and improving its quality. This integration can be done by engaging the individual in various meaningful activities and helping the individual gain employment. Occupational Therapy is one of the professions working in the field of mental health and helping individuals live fulfilling and meaningful lives. Data on the number of individuals with mental illness being successfully integrated and having employment will give us a clearer picture. Hope to see more articles that will create awareness and reduce stigma associated with it.
